Google debuted the ‘Circle to Search” feature with the Galaxy S24 series smartphones, which was later rolled out to the Pixel smartphones. The device will also sport the ‘Live Translate’ feature, which translates voice calls and more.

Google will also equip the Pixel 8a with the ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ to remove unnecessary background noises. The promo video also reveals the black and blue colourways of the device, which were earlier surfaced in press renders as well. Take a look at the expected specifications of the smartphone.

The CEO also added that the Quick Commerce service has already delivered 13 Symphony Air Coolers since morning in the above-mentioned cities. The Quick Commerce online retailer is also offering a discount of 22% on air coolers.

Blinkit Symphony Air Coolers

Blinkit currently retails two models of air conditioners: the Symphony Ice Cube 27 Personal Air Cooler (27 litres) and the Symphony Diet 12T Personal Air Cooler (12 litres). Here is the regular and Blinkit special pricing for the air coolers.

  • Symphony Ice Cube 27 Personal Air Cooler 27 litre – Rs 5,791 (Rs 8,499)

Several users have requested that Blinkit’s CEO increase the coverage of Blinkit delivery within Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru to make the service beneficial to a larger number of users.

Users also pointed out that the service could have started by March when a heat wave hit several parts of the country. The delivery mode has also amused some users since air coolers can’t be transported via two-wheelers.

Mukesh Ambani’s Wyzr Wants to Transform India’s Home Appliances Market: Everything to Know

mukesh ambani wyzr
Highlights
  • Reliance Retail plans to expand its Made-In-India consumer electronics and home appliances brand called “Wyzr”.
  • The company plans to sell several products, including Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, and LED bulbs.

We all know how Mukesh Ambani introduced Jio and disrupted the Indian telecom space. It seems like the Indian billionaire has similar plans for consumer electronics and home appliances. According to reports, Reliance is developing a new Made-In-India brand named Wyzr. The company is already selling Air Coolers under the Wyzr brand in the country.

An Economic Times report says Reliance plans to offer other appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, air conditioners, and more. Here’s everything about Mukesh Ambani’s latest venture into consumer appliances.

Reliance’s Dream with Wyzr

Foreign players like LG, Samsung, and Sony are some of the popular names in India’s Home Appliances segment. Foreign companies have a major market share, whether it is a TV, washing machine, refrigerator, or air conditioner. India’s IFB and Godrej are some of the notable exceptions to the list. Now, it looks like Mukesh Ambani/Reliance wants to join the lucrative sector with Wyzr.

More importantly, this will be a Made-In-India brand operating under Reliance Retail. According to the Economic Times, the company is already finalising production agreements with local manufacturers like Dixon Technologies and Onida’s parent company, Mirc Electronics, to ensure manufacturing in the country.

Which Products will be Included?

The official Wyzr website is already live. While most products still have the “Coming Soon” badge, the company is already selling Air Coolers. However, Wyzr is said to have a larger portfolio in the works, including Air Conditioners, Washing Machines, Refrigerators, TVs, Small Appliances, and even LED light bulbs.

wyzr

How will it be Different from the Reliance Reconnect?

For those unaware, Reliance sold all these consumer appliances under the name Reconnect, which launched in 2011. So how will Wyzr be different from that? The Reconnect products were designed and manufactured by third-party partners, and Reliance was only selling those devices. Wyzr is Reliance’s brand; all products will be designed and manufactured in-house.

What About Manufacturing?

As stated, the company is already in advanced talks with contract manufacturers like Dixon Technologies and Mirc Electronics. However, Reliance plans to set up its production unit once the brand gains a reasonable market share.

Reports state that back in 2022, Reliance Industries had acquired 50.1% shares in the Indian entity of the US-based manufacturing solution company Sanmina Corporation to expand the electronics manufacturing segment in India. Sanmina already has a 100-acre campus in Chennai, where it is expected to set up a plant for Wyzr products.

Reliance’s Strategy

Earlier, when Reliance was selling its Reconnect products, they were mainly available through its Reliance Digital stores. However, reports claim the company could take a different approach with Wyzr. It could ensure that the upcoming products will also be available at independent dealers, regional retail chains, and major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart to ensure greater reach.

Furthermore, according to a Business Today report, Reliance Retail’s Chief Financial Officer Dinesh Taluja told analysts during Reliance Industries’ fourth-quarter earnings on April 22 that Wyzr products could also be cheaper than those from market leader brands like LG, Samsung, and Whirlpool.

HTC 2QDA100 Geekbench Listing

The smartphone has been seen with the model number 2QDA100. This upcoming HTC smartphone could belong to the U24 series since it’s been almost a year since the HTC U23 was introduced.

The smartphone has grabbed 1,095 points in the single-core round and 3,006 points in the multi-core round of the Geekbench 6 benchmark test. The listing reveals that the handset will feature an octa-core processor with codename crow and 1+3+4 core configuration. This implies that the upcoming HTC smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC.

WhatsApp Says Will Exit India if Forced to Enable Break E2E Encryption: Report

WhatsApp doesn't allow users to screenshot profile pictures anymore.
Highlights
  • WhatsApp had challenged Rule 4(2) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
  • The rule requires social media intermediaries to enable traceability and break encryption.

WhatsApp will shut operations in India if it is forced to break end-to-end (E2E) encryption. Do note that these comments were made by WhatsApp’s advocate, Tejas Karia, to the Delhi High Court, according to NDTV. The Meta-owned messaging app has challenged Section 4 (2) of the Information Technology (IT) Rules, 2021, in the Delhi High Court.

The rule requires social media intermediaries —especially instant messaging platforms like WhatsApp— to reveal the first originator of certain messages, which would require the end of E2E encryption.

WhatsApp Threatens to Shut Operations in India

According to the advocate representing WhatsApp, E2E encryption is what makes people use the platform in the first place. The company argues that Section 4 (2) of the Information Technology (IT) Rules, 2021, violates user privacy laws, which are Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of India.

In response to WhatsApp and Meta’s appeal, the centre’s counsel, Kirtiman Singh, contended that the main idea behind the law is to find the originator of fake news or hate speech. He further emphasised that there has to be a way to trace the messages back to their source. Moreover, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology states that WhatsApp is violating the fundamental rights of Indian users by not offering dispute resolution rights.

However, WhatsApp stressed that there are no such rule anywhere else in the world, not even Brazil. WhatsApp’s legal team contends that India is the first country to demand traceability.

According to the company, this may harm unsuspecting users like those who simply share information they heard out of concern or screenshot information online and share it in their circle. This way, even though they might not be the source, they become the originator on the platform.

Moreover, in its official blog, the company mentions, “To comply with traceability requirements, platforms may be forced to enable access to the content of their users’ communications, breaking end-to-end encryption and considerably weakening the security and privacy of their product.”

WhatsApp also mentions that to trace even one message, services would have to trace every single message. This is because there is no knowing which message the government might ask to trace. With over 400 million users in India alone and over 100 billion messages sent on WhatsApp daily, it will be a herculean task. According to Kalra, this will require WhatsApp to store billions of messages for years.

As of now, the Delhi High Court has adjourned the matter to August 14 and called for a balance to be struck.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro Review: Balanced As Everything Should Be

In my first impressions of the device, I called the Motorola Edge 50 Pro a ‘Promising Smartphone’. After using it for over two weeks, I can say that statement is true, but there is always room for improvement.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is a standout device; by all means, it breaks the norms of a smartphone priced under the Rs 30,000 price range. It sports a curved AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, 3x telephoto camera, IP68 rating, and 125W fast charging accompanied with 50W wireless charging, which is almost unheard of in this segment. However, can the Motorola Edge 50 Pro come out on top with competition lurking around? And more importantly, should you buy it? Let’s find out in this review.

Moto Edge 50 Pro Review: Pricing and Availability in India

The Edge 50 Pro is available in two RAM variants, while the built-in storage stays constant at 256GB. The phone can be bought on Flipkart; however, as of writing this review, it seems to be out of stock.

One thing to note is that the lower RAM variant will come with a 68W fast charger in the box, while the higher variant will come with 125W. The phone will support a maximum of 125W fast charging, so if you buy the lower variant and ever need super fast charging, you can buy the brick.

Variants Pricing
8GB RAM + 256GB Storage Rs 31,999
12GB RAM + 256GB Storage Rs 35,999

Moto Edge 50 Pro Review: Design and Display

Motorola finds the most unique colour shades and slaps them onto their phones. The Edge 40 Neo came in attractive and punchy colours, and the Edge 50 Pro did not step back. This is also thanks to their partnership with Pantone — which now extends to their display and camera processing. More on that later.

Design Specifications
Weight 186 grams
Thickness 8.19mm
IP Rating IP68
Port and button placements Bottom: USB Type-C port, primary microphone, SIM tray, speaker grille

Top: Secondary microphone

Right side: Volume rocker and power button

The Lavender Luxe colourway that I have here exudes premium vibes, not just in terms of looks but also in feel. Laced in vegan leather, the phone gives a great grip when using it in one hand. However, it also attracts dirt that will require cleaning. Luckily, the included case should help avoid this. The Moto Edge 50 Pro is also IP68 rated, so you should be safe against accidental drops in water bodies.

The front has a curved display, validated by Pantone for colour accuracy. However, I did not notice any major colour difference in daily usage. Regardless, the display is crisp, vivid, and extremely fast. Motorola remains one of the few brands that still offers a 144Hz refresh rate for its display. While this aids smooth scrolling through the UI, it does raise concerns about battery life. This is what I particularly like about the Moto Edge 50 Pro because it ensures you can drop down the refresh rates to 120Hz to save up on battery.

Display Specifications
Size 6.7-inch
Type pOLED
Resolution 1.5K
Refresh rate 144Hz
Peak brightness Claimed – 2000 nits, Tested – 1986 nits
Minimum brightness 24 nits
Other features DCI-P3 colour gamut, HDR10+
In-display fingerprint sensor Yes, works flawlessly

Watching movies like Venom: Let There Be Carnage was a fun affair, with good viewing angles and deep blacks. While the display supports HDR10+, Netflix does not come with that support out of the box. Despite the curved display, we did not notice any accidental touches in daily usage, which is good. The stereo speaker setup gets loud enough with good clarity, but the output sounds a bit flat when listening to songs, lacking depth.

Moto Edge 50 Pro Review: Performance and Software

The Moto Edge 50 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The same processor can also be found on the OnePlus Nord CE4, which costs about Rs 24,999. The chipset can perform AI trickery, and the Edge 50 Pro implements that in different locations. For example, I particularly enjoyed using Style Sync. It lets you capture a photo of any pattern (can be a funky shirt design) and use it as wallpaper with the help of Generative AI.

Hardware Specifications
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3
RAM Up to 12GB LPDDR4X
Storage Up to 256GB UFS 2.2
CPU Throttling Test 76 per cent of its max performance
Storage Test 74697
Software version HelloUI based on Android 14

The synthetic benchmark scores reflect well on my daily usage. Moreover, while not termed as a performance-centric smartphone, it manages to outshine the Nord CE 4 and the Vivo V30 in AnTuTu tests. The phone manages multitasking and switching between multiple apps with ease, honestly, most of the phones do that with no trouble these days.

The Moto Edge 50 Pro was under fire on X (formerly Twitter) for its choice of storage tech — UFS 2.2. However, I did not find the phone was slow when transferring files from a couple of folders, or even during normal usage. To test it further, I pitted it against the OnePlus 12R in the AnTuTu storage test, and the Moto came out on top despite the former coming with UFS 3.1 storage.

iQOO Neo 7 Pro
1,284,112
Motorola Edge 50 Pro 5G
827,231
OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G
813,629
realme 12 Pro Plus
651,352
AnTuTu Overall benchmark score analysis

The Moto Edge 50 Pro can run BGMI at “Ultra HDR” and ‘’Ultra’’ framerates, so you should get a maximum of 40fps. For 60fps, you can switch the graphics preset to ‘’HDR’’ and framerates to ‘’Extreme’’. These are the same settings you get with the Nord CE4.

The Edge 50 Pro is the first phone with HelloUI based on Android 14. It’s a more aesthetically pleasing and minimalistic version of MyUX, which no longer exists on Motorola flagships. The notification bar and a few other settings get a design revamp and look quite good. It’s still a Motorola skin at the core, so you get Moto gestures and some other features. It has no bloatware apps and comes with three years of software upgrades and four years of security patches.

Moto Edge 50 Pro Review: Cameras

Motorola has also focused on the cameras this time, and as mentioned before, the colours from the camera output are also Pantone-validated. This is said to make the image more realistic and natural. However, that isn’t necessarily the case in all conditions. The primary camera comes with OIS, and the secondary camera acts as an ultra-wide angle shooter and a macro camera. It’s also great to see a 3x optical zoom trickle down into the mid-range segment.

Cameras Specifications
Primary camera 50-megapixel, f/1.4, OIS
Secondary camera 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle and macro camera
Tertiary camera 10-megapixel, 3x telephoto camera
Selfie camera 50-megapixel, f/1.9
Video recording capabilities Up to 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps

Images captured in daylight were crisp, with good control over the dynamic range. The photos had great detail, but the colours were not as natural as advertised. The colour tone leaned towards a warmer shade when it focused on greens and reds, boosting this in some conditions and an uptick in the contrast levels.

While all these were passable things, the processing of photos took a fair bit of time, which was annoying. The ultra-wide-angle camera takes good photos, with minimal distortion at the edges.

The 3x telephoto camera was great for clicking portraits of human subjects. The edge detection was also excellent. Images captured in low-light conditions were also great, with minimal noise provided ample artificial light was nearby.

The front camera captures selfies well if a challenging lighting situation does not appear. It takes good photos with details, balanced colours, and close-to-accurate skin tones. However, if you plan on taking a picture against the light, it tends to falter.

Moto Edge 50 Pro Review: Battery and Charging

The Moto Edge 50 Pro had to cut corners somewhere, especially when you opt for such a slim form factor. The phone comes with a 4,500mAh battery — which is not bad at all, but compared to the competition, it falls slightly behind in this regard.

Nevertheless, the phone remained reliable offering about six hours of screen time, which means it should last an entire day without much fuss. The Edge 50 Pro also lasted for 9 hours and 33 minutes in the PCMark 10 battery life test.

My variant came with a 125W fast charger, which takes roughly 22 minutes to charge to full from dead—which is just wild. However, I noticed the phone reaching about 43 degrees Celsius when charging at these speeds.

The phone also supports 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging, which was almost unheard of in this segment. However, Moto does not sell its charging accessories in India at the time of this review.

Moto Edge 50 Pro Review: Verdict

The Moto Edge 50 Pro does many things right for its starting price. The phone is perfect for people who want a clean UI experience, a vibrant and sleek design, and a reliable performer.

The curved AMOLED display also produces good, punchy colours for content consumption, while the faster 144Hz refresh rate will aid gamers. While it’s not the best performer in this segment, due to its processor choice, it can still manage things well.

The triple camera setup also performs well, and the 3x telephoto lens is a much-welcome addition. However, the image processing time could’ve been faster — this is probably a limitation at the SoC end. The new HelloUI functions well and provides an excellent user experience.

The Edge 50 Pro faces competition from the Realme 12 Pro Plus, OnePlus Nord 3, iQOO Neo 7 Pro, the Poco F5, and more. While it may lose out in the eyes of hardcore performance seekers, the Edge 50 Pro stands on its own in other aspects.

JioCinema vs Netflix vs Amazon Prime vs Disney+ Hotstar: Cheapest Plans in India Compared

JioCinema recently introduced two ad-free plans for its Premium tier in India. These plans start at Rs 29 per month for a single device and Rs 59 for a Family plan for four devices. The OTT platform has ‘pulled a Jio’ again, disrupting the Indian OTT market. If you are wondering why we are saying so, here’s a detailed comparison of the cheapest plans offered by JioCinema Premium, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus Hotstar in India.

JioCinema vs Netflix vs Amazon Prime vs Disney+ Hotstar: Cheapest Plans in India

JioCinema Premium Netflix Amazon Prime Lite Disney Plus Hotstar
Price Rs 29/month Rs 149/month Rs 799/year Rs 149/3-month
Number of devices 1 1 1 1
Supported devices Mobile, tablet, tv, laptop Mobile, Tablet Mobile Mobile
Resolution 4K 480p 720p 720p
Video ads No No Yes Yes

JioCinema Premium: Cheapest Plan in India

As you can see in the table above, the JioCinema Premium ad-free plan is the cheapest amongst the competition here. If you stream JioCinema content only on one device, Rs 29 a month is all you need to shell out. However, if you want to stream content on more devices, you can stretch the budget slightly and get the Family plan of Rs 59 per month, which supports four devices at a time.

Bear in mind that these are introductory prices, and they will be hiked to Rs 50 and Rs 149 soon. The USP of JioPremium ad-free plans is that users can stream content in 4K resolution and there’s no barrier on which device you can use these plans on. Moreover, these plans remove video ads from streaming content except for sports and live coverage.

Netflix: Cheapest Plan in India

Just like JioCinema Premium, Netflix also offers ad-free content to its subscribers. Starting at Rs 149 a month, the Netflix Mobile plan —as the name suggests— is a mobile-only plan for smartphone users in India.

While you can access the entire Netflix catalogue with this plan, you can only use a smartphone or tablet. Moreover, those who subscribe to the Netflix Mobile plan can only stream the content in 480p quality.

Amazon Prime: Cheapest Plan in India

Amazon offers an annual Prime membership for Rs 1,499 to users in India, which includes benefits like early access to mega sales, one-day delivery, and more. The Amazon Prime membership also includes access to Prime Reading, Prime Video, and Prime Music. However, Amazon also has a Prime Lite plan worth Rs 799 per year for those who want a budget option.

The main benefits of Amazon’s Prime Lite membership remain the same as the regular Prime plan. However, Prime Video access is limited to mobile only and the streaming resolution is capped at 720p. Moreover, Prime Lite users will be shown ads in live sports and TV shows. This plan doesn’t include access to Prime Music and Prime Reading either.

Disney Plus Hotstar: Cheapest Plan in India

Disney+ Hotstar might have lost its lion’s share of content to JioCinema, but it’s still standing tall in the Indian OTT space, thanks to Marvel and live sports content. The OTT platform has a mobile-only plan starting at Rs 149 for three months.

For the price, Disney Plus Hotstar users can watch all content on the platform in 720p resolution. However, the plan is not ad-free, and users will have to endure ads between streaming. Moreover, the plan is restricted to one device at a time.

Final Thoughts

JioCinema Premium is the best offering amongst the top OTT players in India. At just Rs 29 a month, JioCinema users can enjoy IPL 2024, movies, and TV shows from Peacock, HBO, Paramount Plus, and more. From 4K streaming to more supported devices, the JioCinema Premium’s ad-free plans offer the best perk you can get on a budget.

Amazon Prime Lite is good for those who want e-commerce benefits and Prime Video streaming. On the other hand, Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar are for those who want to watch original shows and movies on these platforms.
